A Warm Welcome for Fall: Dwell's Clothing and Winter Coat Pop-Up Event
As the crisp autumn air settles in, so does the reality of changing seasons, especially for the many children in care and the families who support them. This past weekend, Dwell opened its doors for a special Fall Clothing and Winter Coat Pop-Up event, and the impact was nothing short of heartwarming.
The Hope Chest Foster Closet provided 180 shirts, 180 pairs of pants, and 30 cozy winter coats to children in care. For many caregivers, this event meant one less trip to the store and a sense of relief as they prepared their children for the chilly months ahead. One foster mom perfectly captured the mood of the day, sharing, "This is such a blessing. We are so thankful!"
We welcomed families from all over the area, including one family currently fostering six children. A kinship grandmother carefully selected warm clothing for her grandchildren, knowing they would stay snug and secure as temperatures drop. Another family gathered essentials for a child who had just entered their care earlier that week. The sense of community and support was undeniable, and we couldn’t be prouder of what we accomplished together.
While caregivers shopped, our youngest volunteer, an 11-year-old with a heart of gold, led a fun and creative activity for the children. With colorful markers and stickers in hand, kids designed their own bookmarks—a small but joyful keepsake to take home amidst the busyness of the day.
But this event wasn’t just about clothes. It was about connection. We hugged caregiver mothers, held their babies as they browsed, encouraged them, and even shed a few tears together. We reminded them that they have a village behind them, ready to offer love and support whenever needed. Our volunteers, including a kinship caregiver, foster and adoptive parents, were the heartbeat of the day—offering smiles, encouragement, and an abundance of joy.
The success of this event was made possible by the incredible generosity of our community. From gently used donations to brand-new items from wishlists and local stores, every contribution made a difference. We were also deeply touched by a local supporter who dropped off a hot lasagna—a meal that will provide comfort to a family welcoming a new placement.
As the day came to a close, we left with full hearts, knowing that the children we served would face the colder months with warm clothes and even warmer support. Thank you to everyone who made this possible—from our volunteers to the generous souls who donated. You are the reason we can continue to serve our mission: ensuring every child has a family, and every family has a village.
Together, we’re making a difference—one coat, one hug, one lasagna at a time.
