Introducing Made To Celebrate! - a program bringing smiles to children experiencing foster care and kinship care on their birthdays.
Children in care can experience significant challenges and disruptions in their lives, including feelings of loss, uncertainty, and isolation. Birthdays, which are typically joyful milestones, can sometimes become painful reminders of separation from biological families bringing on symptoms of grief.
Made to Celebrate! is a program dedicated to ensuring that children in foster or kinship care in Lycoming and Clinton Counties are celebrated on their special day. Each child will receive happy mail of a specially curated package filled with things from their birthday wish list, giving them voice and choice.
Additionally, a personalized gift certificate is included to a local bakery where they can choose their very own birthday treat!
Inspired by Psalm 118:24, this initiative aims to create positive core memories, enhance self-worth, and show a child that regardless of their circumstances, they are loved and were indeed made to be celebrated!

Here's why happy mail on their birthday can make a difference:
Affirmation of Their Worth: Receiving a thoughtful gift on their birthday shows that they are valued and remembered, reinforcing their sense of self-worth. For a child who may feel forgotten or unseen, this can be life-changing.
Creating Positive Memories: A small celebration, especially through mail, can transform what might otherwise be a difficult day into a joyful and affirming moment, creating positive core memories.
Building Hope and Connection: Happy mail reminds children they are not alone. These intentional acts of kindness can inspire hope and build resilience in children. It’s a tangible sign that people in their community are rooting for their success and happiness.
Supporting Caregivers: Foster parents and caregivers already bear the emotional and financial responsibility of providing for children in their care. Made To Celebrate! eases their financial burden and fosters a sense of community support, showing them they are not alone in their foster care or kinship journey.
