Answering the Call: How Tia Mayo Built Her Forever Family with Dwell’s Support
Tia Mayo’s story is a testament to resilience, faith, and the power of community. As a former foster youth who experienced a dissolved adoption, Tia’s journey to finding a loving family of her own was far from conventional. Adopted as an adult by her first-ever foster family, she knew her purpose: to one day become a foster and adoptive mom.
That “someday” came sooner than expected when a friend called needing a safe home for her baby. At just 21, Tia stepped into motherhood by fostering and later adopting her son, Emmitt.
A year later, Tia welcomed her second child, Elliana, outside the foster system. With no agency support, the financial burden of adoption fell entirely on her shoulders. “I remember praying about this baby before she was born and felt like God said, ‘I will provide for your family,’” Tia recalls.
It was during this time that Dwell’s adoption grant came into her life. “When I was told about the grant, it just felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders,” she shares. The grant arrived just as Tia faced costly car repairs and unpaid maternity leave, reminding her that God provides.
Today, Tia is a proud mom to three children: Emmitt, Elliana, and her youngest, Aniyah. Her story is a powerful example of how love and support can transform lives.
