Meet the Mayo Family

I am Tia Mayo!

Hi, my name is Tia Mayo and I am not your typical adoption story as I chose to enter motherhood as a young single woman within 6 months of my own adoption.

I was a former foster youth myself who had a dissolved adoption as a teen and it wasn't until years into adulthood that my first ever foster family would end up adopting me as an adult!

I always knew one day I would want to be a foster/ adoptive mother.

Since I was a former foster youth myself, I knew I would be able to connect and help kids in a special way.

This was a journey I had planned to embark on someday down the road when I was married and settled but then someday quickly turned into today when I received a phone call from a friend needing a place for her baby.

I said yes and entered motherhood as a 21-year-old single woman.

I got licensed to be a foster mother and I ended up adopting my now son Emmitt through the foster system.

I bought us a home and then a year into motherhood I found myself saying yes again taking on my second child at 8 weeks old.

This arrangement was outside of the system placing the financials of raising a child and adoption cost solely on me.

I remember praying about this baby before she was born and felt like God said I will provide for your family.

So, I said yes again bringing home my now daughter Elliana.

3 years into this journey of motherhood and now on to my third adoption DWELL has been a huge support in many ways one of them being the adoption grant for my second child (Elliana).

When I was told about the grant it just felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.

Leading up to getting the grant I had major car issues that were costly to repair, and I knew only a few short weeks after my middle child was adopted, I would be taking unpaid maternity leave to bring home my third child but through the grant I was reminded that the lord was faithful to his word and provided for my little family.

I am beyond thankful for the people who donate to make these grants possible.

Their donations are someone else's answer to prayers and the money came at the perfect time with the arrival of my youngest, Aniyah.
