Meet the Showers Family
We are Alicia and Zachary Showers!
Both of us have always enjoyed working with kids in different capacities and knew we wanted to be parents someday.
Because of surgeries that Zach had at a very young age due to childhood cancer, we knew going into marriage that adoption was going to be the route we took to add to our family.
We weren’t sure what that route was going to look like but trusted that God had a plan for our family.
That journey started in 2018 when our son Trey was born in Jacksonville, Florida. We hoped to add number 2 reasonably quickly, but it took almost 5 years until we were matched again with another birth mother in the Tampa, Florida area.
Our son, Theo was not due until the end of August in 2023, but came 5 weeks early, changing our summer plans at a moment’s notice and having us spend some time in the NICU before being cleared to come back to PA.
Theo, is a healthy and happy kid. He is adored by us and his older brother! Due to the early arrival of Theo, we were forced to dip into finances that were used for day-to-day expenses to be able to finalize our adoption.
The Dwell Grant came to us at the exact time we needed it, to help pay off some adoption loans but also be able to make ends meet after paying for our adoption and the travel expenses from being in Florida for a few weeks.
We were and continue to be grateful for the impact Dwell is making and how they have positively impacted our family during this last adoption!
We recently adopted Theo’s younger bio-sibling, Tatum, in November 2024 and continue to be open to God’s leading with potential siblings of our children in the future.
