B is for Birth Family
Birth families or first families are what we call an adoptive or foster child’s biological family. Some children placed through domestic infant adoptions will have an open relationship with their birth family throughout their lives, while others may not have any details about their family of origin.
We deeply respect the first families of our children who have been adopted and fostered, and we recognize the trauma they experience when they place their child or have rights terminated. Their journey goes firmly against the rosy adoption narrative, and we know that they need room to grieve.
We also recognize the innate connection between adoptees and their birth families. There are personality quirks and postures, preferences for tastes, or activities that are just part of their shared nature.
They are forever bound together.
